Tsuwalhkálh ti tmícwa (the land is ours)

Our people would not exist without the ecological integrity of the land and water that supports our St’át’imc way of life. This land has supported our people for many generations. The Creator placed the P’egp’íg’lha on the land within St’át’imc Territory as a blessing and responsibility. Our connection to the land can never be broken. It is our heritage and the heart of our culture and identity.

When we speak of the land, we speak of our dwelling place. When we speak of the land, we speak of the earth, of the water, of the fire, of the air we breathe, and of all things that live on the land (Sxeks ta nt’ákmensa I P’egp’íg’lha – P’egp’íg’lha Constitution). This is what we were instructed to do.

The P’egp’íg’lha community is committed to the decolonization of our institutions, processes and decision making. In accordance with this commitment and the P’egp’íg’lha Constitution, our Elders have determined that the P’egp’íg’lha will work with other St’át’imc communities to look after and protect the land in the Northern St’át’imc Territory.
