There are often several crews that are in operation at any one time. Their duties include forest fire fighting under contract with the provincial ministry; fuel management, fire protection around the reserves, back burning the fields and hills on reserve lands, and danger tree assessment.

The crews undertake training early in the spring and earn tickets that qualify them for Crew Leader, Pump operations, Radio and Communications, incident commands, back burning, Danger Tree Assessment, First Aid Level I, Transportation Endorsement and S100 and S185 tickets. All of the crew members are also required to complete a physical test and need to meet specific Ministry of Forest requirements to be hired by T’ít’q’et.

There have been as many as 3 Five Pack Teams that were assigned to fight forest fires in the British Columbia interior. They are employed as crews for demobilization, mop-up, patrol, night patrol and back burning.

T’ít’q’et crews have worked on fires at Xuxum Creek, Elephant Hill, Kelowna West Bank, Merritt, Hope, Salmon Arm, Apple Spring, and Camoo Creek.
